Rationally-Based Structural Design of Welded Plate Panels

چکیده

This study predicts the behavior of welded plate panels (unstiffened plates) with different geometrical properties (slenderness ratio and aspect ratio) in order to address a rational structural design procedure, as these parameters are great importance from perspective. Nonlinear finite element analysis has been used simulate butt-welding process panels, giving three-dimensional distribution distortion residual stresses induced by welding through moving heat source. The numerical results validated published experimental measurements. effect such slenderness β a/b on creation welding-induced imperfections (distortion stresses) have investigated this work. These influence imperfections, which turn affect load-carrying capacity panels. Three ratios three studied. It is concluded that increasing can highly increase out-of-plane magnitude well compressive stress. plates high (thin thicknesses) affected a/b. As increases, reduction ultimate strength due existence decreases. Slenderness smaller more than higher ratio.

Shape memory-based multifunctional structural actuator panels

A multifunctional panel concept is presented in which a lightweight, structural sandwich panel is able to undergo a reversible change in shape upon application of a localized thermal stimulus. The shape change is effected by metallic (or polymeric) shape memory (SM) face sheet elements, which exploit a “one-way” SM effect only. Unlike other designs, no external or bias forces are required to co...

Experimental and Numerical Study of Perforated Steel Plate Shear Panels

Thin perforated Steel Plate Shear (SPS) Walls are among the most common types of energy dissipating systems. The applied holes reduce the shear strength of the plate and allow to decrease the profile size of the members at the boundary of the panel when these systems are used in the typical design of structures. On the other hand, the different fracture locations of these panels are visible whe...

Exploring Design Options Rationally

This paper describes a design technique for interactive systems that allows designs to be specified and refined formally, using a notation based on Action Systems. The rationale underlying the choices made by designers is recorded in a style based on the “Questions, Options, Criteria” notation. The means of capturing formal specifications and the reasoning behind design decisions are presented ...

Numerical Analysis of Heat Transfer of Arc Welded Plate

In submerged arc welding process, the understanding of temperature distribution is essential in order to control the dimension of heat affected zone and to get the required weld bead shape and size etc. Moreover, the temperature profile is required to estimate the stress distribution in thermo mechanical analysis of the process. In this work, a numerical solution for moving heat source with Gau...
